*Gaza Activists: We Fear Israel Prevent Anti-Siege Boats* NICOSIA, August 4, 2008 (WAFA) - Activists who plan to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip from the sea said on Monday they fear Israel may try to spoil the venture. 'We have a fear that Israel will do something here to sabotage the trip,' Greta Berlin, a spokeswoman for the US-based Free Gaza Movement, told reporters in Cyprus. 'The only thing being kept a secret is the location of the boats because of what Israel has done in the past -- they don't want us to go.' According to the Free Gaza Movement on Monday, the Israeli government contacted Cyprus to see if the boats could be stopped but was told 'no.' Berlin said the group hopes that the vessels, due to sail in 'four or five days,' will draw attention to the plight of 1.5 million Palestinians suffering chronic shortages. The international activists are determined to raise awareness about Gaza's plight. 'That's what goes with the territory of non-violent resistance -- it means a willingness to be put in harm's way,' said Israeli Jeff Halper, 57. 'The fact that ordinary people have to get on two boats is an indictment of the international community.' The two boats will sail under Greek or Norwegian flags, and the organizers said the mission will only proceed if Cyprus gives the green light. The activists include teachers, medics, lawyers and musicians. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
