Hey
people! Hope y'all had a good extended Independence Day weekend.
Welcome back to Underground Hum, where every day is Independent's Day!
(A pun that I simply couldn't resist, forgive me.) It's time again to
fill your mind with tidbits of info to make your friends think you're
really cool or just really geeky. Thank you again for the cool cool
notes. Keep them coming. Let's get started with this week's Reverb.
International
Bassist
Brian Bell of geek rock mavens Weezer has entered a Relationship. By
that, I mean he has formed a new band called Relationship, which is a
pretty nifty name for a band, I might add. The new outfit kicked off
their intro tour in Salt Lake City this weekend and have announced
they're working on an album which will be on its way very soon.
From
global warming to cool rock tunes has traveled Davis Guggenheim, famed
director of Al Gore's conservation documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
He has corralled Jack White, Jimmy Page, and the Edge into a new rock
documentary called It Might Get Loud. According to a press release,
"The movie revolves around a singular day when Jimmy Page, the Edge,
and Jack White first met and sat down together to share their stories,
teach, and play." The doc "captures the guitarists as each explains and
demonstrates how he changed the sound of the electric guitar to suit
his own distinctive musical style." It Might Get Loud will make its
world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
National
We've got some nifty national news for you this week. Here it is:
Uber-cool and plenty-pleasant Bandung trip-hop collective Everybody Loves Irene
recently released their second full-length LP titled On Second Thought, I Might
Wanna Change Some Things through the Demajors Independent Music Industry label.
The first single off this yummy baby is a cover of local 90's indie pop guru
Planet Bumi's "Rindu".
If trip-hop is your flavor of choice, then go out to your nearest
decent record store and buy it! For more info, visit these lovelies at

The
super-prolific indie rock multi-instrumentalist and net-label
sweetheart Shorthand Phonetics has announced that he's going to release
his new full-length LP on Sept. 30th through Yes No Wave Records. He
says this is going to be a bit of a departure from his last work -- we
shall wait and see. For SP's previous work, go to
www.myspace.com/shorthandphonetics or www.yesnowave.com
That about does it for this week's Underground Hum.
