Abu Rdaina: Peace Requires Ending Occupation on Basis of Arab Peace Initiative RAMALLAH, October 20, 2008, (WAFA)- The Spokesperson of the Presidency Nabil Abu- Rdaina said Monday: "The only way to put the peace process on its right track is by adhering to the basis of the peace process principles launched in Madrid Conference in 1991: land for peace and ending the Israeli Occupation for all Arab lands". Abu Rdaina was commenting on a statement of Israeli Defence Minister, Ehud Barak who calls for a new initiative other than the Arab Peace Initiative adopted by the Arab Summit in 2002, and another statement by the Israeli President Shimon Peres who calls to achieve a regional peace accord with the concerned Arab parties. Abu Rdaina says: "The Arab Peace Initiative which was readopted in Damascus Summit in 2008, represents a solid and indivisible basis to reach a just and comprehensive peace, that would restore the Arab rights and would insure the security and stability for all people in the Middle East." The spokesperson warned that the calls for regional peace would be an attempt of escape from the commitments of peace process or would be an alternative to the Arab Peace Initiative, noting that those commitments should be implemented through ending the Israeli occupation of all Arab lands and the establishing of the Palestinian independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, without any postponement of final status issues.
