Iran on Thursday called for promoting relations with Japan in different fields.

"Iran and Japan should make use of their potential to expand relations. Tehran
attaches importance to bolstering ties with Tokyo," Iran's Deputy Foreign
Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Mohammad-Mehdi Akhoundzadeh said.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Head of Iran-Japan Parliamentary
Friendship Group Taro Nakayama.
Akhoundzadeh arrived in Japan on Wednesday at the invitation of Japan's Deputy
Foreign Minister Kenichiro Sasae to attend a joint consulting political
committee.

He is to discuss key mutual, regional and international developments with
Japanese officials.

Akhoundzedeh said that Iranian and Japanese officials have earlier took major
steps toward boosting bilateral ties.

He added, "Iran and Japan will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the
establishment of political ties in 2009. This will pave the way for improving
cooperation in all areas."

Meanwhile, Nakayama said that Iran is a leading and influential country in the
Middle East.
He added that exchange of visits between officials of both countries would lead
