"Iran and Japan should make use of their potential to expand relations. Tehran attaches importance to bolstering ties with Tokyo," Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Mohammad-Mehdi Akhoundzadeh said. He made the remarks in a meeting with Head of Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group Taro Nakayama. Akhoundzadeh arrived in Japan on Wednesday at the invitation of Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Kenichiro Sasae to attend a joint consulting political committee. He is to discuss key mutual, regional and international developments with Japanese officials. Akhoundzedeh said that Iranian and Japanese officials have earlier took major steps toward boosting bilateral ties. He added, "Iran and Japan will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of political ties in 2009. This will pave the way for improving cooperation in all areas." Meanwhile, Nakayama said that Iran is a leading and influential country in the Middle East.
