Lahoud to Al-Manar: Lebanon Can't Be 'Neutral'!
15/01/2009 Former President Emile Lahoud called on Lebanese President Michel
Sleiman and other officials to decide to take part in the Qatari-suggested Arab
Summit to take place in Doha on Friday, stressing that Lebanon can't be
"neutral" in this field.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Al-Manar, Lahoud recalled that Qatar
played a major role in resolving the Lebanese conflict, noting that the
Lebanese President was elected and the national-unity government was formed
thanks to the Doha Agreement.
"Even more important is that Lebanon confronted the Zionist entity in 2006 just
like Gaza is doing today," Lahoud pointed out. "Lebanon has achieved victory
against Israel," he also recalled.
"Is it possible for Lebanon now to take the position of neutrality?" Lahoud
wondered, stressing that if Lebanon actually takes that the position, "then
this is shameful." He was referring to the logic saying that Lebanon had no
interest in supporting one Arab axis against another.
