Hillary to Visit Jakarta This Month Saturday, 07 February, 2009 | 07:48 WIB TEMPO Interactive, Washington, DC:US Foreign Minister Hillary Rodham Clinton will be visiting Jakarta on February 18, said Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla following his meeting with US vice president, Joseph Biden, at the White House in Washington, yesterday. "At the cabinet meeting, Minister Hillary said she would only visit three countries; Japan, China, and South Korea. But President Barack Obama reminded her to visit Indonesia," Kalla said. "This means the US government regards Indonesia's role to be important," Kalla added. Indonesian Ambassador to the US, Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat explained that in Jakarta Hillary will meet with Foreign Minister Nur Hassan Wirajuda and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. "We have just approved her visa," said an officer at Indonesian Embassy in Washington. The Kalla - Biden meeting was the first bilateral meeting at the White House since Obama's inauguration 16 days ago. "We never expected you to have the initiative to visit here," Biden said, quoted by Kalla. The 45-minute meeting discussed various topics, from economic issues to Palestine. During his visit in Washington, Kalla also met with Senator Christopher Bond, Senator Jim Web, National Intelligence director Dennis Blair and a number of American businessmen.
