Havana. March 6, 2009
Esteban Lazo receives the President of the German Communist Party (DKP)
. ESTEBAN Lazo, member of the Political Bureau and vice president of the
Council of State, received Heinz Stehr, the chairman of the German Communist
Party (DKP), in the headquarters of the Central Committee.
The German Communist Leader is in Cuba on the invitation of the Central
Committee of the Cuban Communist Party. He is here to meet with political and
state leaders and to see first hand the efforts of the Cuban people to
construct a more just society.
In the meeting, Lazo thanked the DKP for their actions of solidarity in
defense of the Cuban Revolution, illustrated not only by the support of German
militants for funding and building health-related projects in Matanzas
province, but also by the moral support and permanent denunciation of the
unjust U.S. blockade against Cuba and the mobilization in Germany to free the
Cuban Five, the heroes incarcerated in U.S. prisons.
Lazo noted the importance of the Party's political ideological work in
the current context and how the difficult and complex moments of the
international economic and financial crisis make discussions between political
parties about finding solutions to their own problems increasingly necessary.
For his part, the DKP chairman emphasized Cuba's role as a point of
reference in the revolutionary process and spirit of change in Latin America.
Cuba, he said, despite being a small island, plays an important role in the
struggle for alternatives to neoliberalism in the world and, above all, in
Latin America.
German communists admire the Cuban people because they never lose
confidence in the Revolution, its leaders, or the Party.
Jorge Martà MartÃnez, head of the Central Committee's Department of
International Relations, as well as other officials also participated in the
meeting.
