JEDDAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal will open Saturday a
conference on "The problems facing Muslim youths and their solutions" at the
headquarters of the Muslim World League (MWL) in Makkah, said Abdullah
Al-Turki, secretary-general of the MWL on Tuesday.
"The MWL gives utmost importance to youth issues and dialogue with other
communities as well as problems such as terrorism and extremism," he told
reporters. "We are ready to cooperate with other Islamic, social, cultural and
media organizations to educate young Muslim men and women on Islam."
He commended the interfaith dialogue initiative of Custodian of the Two
Holy Mosques King Abdullah, saying it would help promote peaceful coexistence
of nations. "We are also concerned with Muslim minorities in different
countries," the MWL chief said. Recently, the MWL held a seminar in Kuala
Lumpur on the issue.
He also disclosed that the MWL would hold an international conference
next year to mark its golden jubilee, adding that the conference would focus
the league's role in serving the interests of humanity.
The meet on youth issues is held as part of a series of Makkah
conferences organized by the league annually on the occasion of Haj, making use
of prominent Islamic scholars who take part in the annual pilgrimage as its
guests.
"The MWL wants the youths to understand Islamic teachings properly in the
light of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Islamic teachings are capable of solving all
human problems, especially those related to youths," Al-Turki said.
"We have invited a number of renowned Islamic scholars and researchers as
well as leaders of Islamic organizations to take part in this annual
conference," he said.
Al-Turki emphasized the desire of the MWL and the Islamic centers
affiliated to it in solving the problems and challenges facing Muslim youths
across the world.
He said the new challenges posed by the globalization demanded joint
Islamic efforts with the cooperation of media organizations to protect young
Muslim generation from destructive thoughts and trends. "Families, mosques and
schools should join hands in this endeavor," he said.
