Damascus hosts 12th Iran-Syrian Joint Economic Commission
Tehran, April 28, IRNA -- Syria is to host the 12th Iran-Syria Joint Economic
Commission, it was announced on Wednesday.
The joint commission is to be co-chaired by Iran’s First Vice President
Mohammad-Reza Rahimi and Syrian Premier Mohammed Naji Otri in Damascus on April
29-30.
In the two-day meeting, the two sides are to review implementation of the
agreements already signed by both sides.
A group of Majlis representatives along with a number of businessmen and
merchants from Iranian private sector will attend in the meeting.
Tehran and Damascus have broad-based economic cooperation in commerce, energy,
transportations, developing projects, agriculture, science and research,
culture, tourism and pilgrimage.
Senior officials of the two countries are to study new grounds for expansion of
mutual cooperation in media, banking, customs, housing, export of gas to Syria
through Turkey, supplying Syria with irrigation water as well as export of
polymer and petrochemicals to Syria.
Iran-Syria trade hit dlrs 340 million in last year and Iran has invested some
dlrs 1.5 billion in the Syrian developing projects.
In the meantime, the Iranian first vice-president is scheduled to confer with
the Syrian president on issues of mutual interests as well as regional
developments.
