Life-saving thief A would-be thief in Lanzhou, Gansu Province in China became a life saver instead when he gave heart medicine to the elderly woman whose home he had broken into at 4 am last Saturday. The woman, "Grandma Zhang," said she awoke with chest pain and breathing difficulties and reached in the dark for a glass of water and her heart pills when the glass fell to the floor and broke. At the same time she said she was horrified to see the silhouette of a young man standing at her bedside. "My heart was in my throat," she said. "But I was so scared and in pain that I begged him to hand me my medicine and pour me another glass of water." After taking her pills, Zhang said she asked the man how he entered her home. "He hesitated for a long time. Then he told me he was a thief and that he'd come in through the window when the sound of the breaking glass scared him." She added that he told her that he then realized how ill she was and decided to help, rather than rob her. "I asked him to take anything he wanted because he saved me," Zhang said. "But he said nothing and left quickly." Source: Lanzhou Morning Post Published July 4 2010 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
