Hi List, I was again hit by some problems with pdfthumb, but this time I had enough patience to look around a bit more..
The symptom was that pdfthumb would just hang and do nothing after starting to convert the thumbnails. Pressing Ctrl-C results in a message Error: Ghostscript interpreter exited with code 248 Of course I first blamed GS and started trying different versions of it, namely 5.50 and 6.51. Same result - no thumbnails. I would have stayed with that (I don't really *need* them), but by chance I did some work on the text at home - and there thumbnailing worked! So I checked for the difference in the two computers, and also included my Notebook (all are SuSE 7.2 Systems). Lucky enough, all of them had a different version of Java installed: 1.2.2, 1.3.1 and 1.4.1_01 And it turned out that this made the difference: Only with Java version 1.3.1 pdfthumb is able to create the thumbnails. To make sure it is ths and nothing else I installed both 1.3.1 and 1.2.2 on one computer and still, with 1.3.1 it works, with 1.2.2 it doens't. Has anyone noticed something similar?
