Review Comment:
   Yeah, I may be able to leave `AsyncChain` itself alone for now, but I'll be 
tweaking the control flow for processing of messages by command stores, as its 
very different with partial replication (with the concept of deferred execution 
when earlier messages haven't arrived, amongst other things). I had hoped to 
leave it all entirely untouched until we could collaborate, since it's all 
intertwined, but we can revisit it when you're back.
