could you describe "how" the names will be used?
There are several ways of using an identifier,
with several different levels of requrements for
"canonicalizations": from looser to stricter,

 * Display only
 * List-up and select (e.g. modern messaging applications)
 * Type-in and compare
 * Type-in and compute (cryptographic) (e.g. most cryptography-based
authentications)

Which model will your target appliance's use case falls into?
