Sorry, I should have been more clear; compile gcc *and binutils*
manually (they're usually used as a pair). That way you'll get GNU
binutils and not OSX's. Also, you'll get the original GNU gcc and not
Apple's patched one --- I don't believe Apple's gcc will generate ELF
files, for example, which Prex needs.

Yes, I'm afraid that this really will mean you'll be cross compiling
from i386 to i386, but it's less work that way.
