It should come as no surprise to you that sleep is very important. I'm
sure you have felt the effects of a poor night's sleep. Poor sleep
affects all aspects of your life from your health to your ability to
make decisions.

Most people need eight hours of sleep every day. Some people might feel
fine during the day after getting six hours of sleep and some people
might feel their best after getting 10 hours a sleep every night. It
varies from person to person, but if you get less than six or more than
ten, there could be some underlying causes to your sleep patterns.

The number one cause for sleep problems is stress. It is not surprising
that stress is the number one cause because stress can cause lack of
sleep and lack of sleep can then cause more stress. It is a vicious
cycle. If stress is the issue with your sleep problems, it is important
to get the stress under control and make sure insomnia or other sleep
problems do not persist.

Something that can affect your sleep and that you can control is what
you do before you go to sleep. You want to make sure that you do not
drink a lot of caffeine or alcohol before going to sleep; it can affect
your sleep. It also helps to spend some time relaxing and winding down
from your busy day. You want to relax your body as well as your mind.

Some other things that you can control or improve are distractions when
you go to sleep. Many people like to fall asleep with the TV on. That is
not such a good idea because the sounds can wake you up later. If you
have a lot of sounds that occur outside of your room whether it's a
noisy road or a loud neighbor, you can listen to soothing music to drown
out the distracting sounds.

How is the temperature in your bedroom? Everyone varies on what
temperature suits them the best, but try to figure out what your ideal
temperature is. Sometimes people are awakened at night because they are
too hot or too cold, but they do not know this is what is waking them
up.

There is a possibility of over 70 different sleep disorders. These sleep
disorders can wreak havoc on your sleep and the rest of your day. Lack
of sleep can cause many health problems. And too much sleep can be a
sign of an underlying health concern.

If you have problems sleeping, then I encourage you to seek help in some
way. Sleep is vital to the way we live and helps us feel good throughout
the day.
