Ummm - a dual core CPU is supposedly the same as two single core
CPUs except for the packaging.
That's what the tech specs say. Two complete CPUs on a single piece
of silicon (die). From what I've read though, Windows will only make
use of one core, unless a program specifies otherwise (64-bit Windows
might be different). A few tests I ran seem to confirm that.
run something compute bound like a video encoding job, and then do
something else concurrently and both CPUs will see plenty of usage.
the optimal setup for prime95 on any SMP (whether dual chip, or dual
core) is to run two copies, and set the CPU affinity on each, this will
use 100% of the idle time on both processors.
