Consider me in "this mailing list has outlived its usefulness" camp.

I think the number subscribed is no longer a good indicator of interest - I expect I'm like many folks who've migrated to the forum, in that I either never bothered to unsubscribe from the mailing list, or only maintain my subscription due to the small number of people (some of whose opinions I value) who are sticking with the mailing list. Like many, I was also somewhat skeptical when the forum came around, but retained an open mind, tried it out, stuck with it while it underwent the predictable evolution and growing pains, and now believe it to be a vastly superior vehicle for the purpose this mailing list was designed to serve. Frankly, I see a lot of vague whiny "forums are sooo bogus" objections which seem based more on preconceived notions and long habits than actual substantive objections. For those who don't like the forum, have you actually tried it, and if so, what precisely don't you like? The only substantive objection that seems to hold any water is the one about bandwidth and distracting graphics, but those concerns are easily obviated by customizing one's browser settings (or user profile) - when I visit the forum, all I see is text. In any event, I'd estimate that 99% or more of the people who in years past used or would have used the mailing list have simply voted with their feet. For myself, I'm going to make it official and unsubscribe from the mailing list as soon as I send this last posting. If you need to reach me, you know where to find me. ;) John, thanks for all your work maintaining the list over the years! See you on the other side... -Ernst _______________________________________________ Prime mailing list [email protected] http://hogranch.com/mailman/listinfo/prime
