Hi all, I've just started up Prime95 after about 6 months, maybe longer, of not running it.
It started on the exponent that I had been working on last time it was running (38438993) and I immediately received the following error: Contacting PrimeNet server. Updating computer information on the server. Sending expected completion date for M38438993: April 28 2008. ERROR 17: Operation not permitted on this exponent. The FAQ at http://www.mersenne.org/ips/faq.html may have more information. Done communicating with server. I did a search of the faq (maybe I missed it) looking for ERROR 17 but I couldn't find it. The program continues to work on the exponent, but returns the error message once a day when it contacts the server. I'm assuming that because it has been so long since I last ran the program the exponent has expired and been given to somebody else. I don't want to cause somebody else the same problem that Chris had, so is there a file that I can edit or delete that will force my pc to get a new exponent? Alternatively, can I check somewhere to see whether or not a double-check has been run on this exponent. If it hasn't then can I just let it continue and have it automatically treated (upon completion) as a double-check? Or does the 6th month time delay invalidate the results regardless? BTW the most likely reason for being "poached" is that someone had the exponent, let it expire but carried on working on it anyway.
