Sadly, my kids run Windows on a computer for a couple of games that they
play. It also happens to work out for me since I tend to use it to test
printing interoperability. At any rate, They have an old Epson Color
Stylus 777
printer connected to it and I can print to it from Solaris without any
problems. I had to do the following:
1) make sure it's shared from windows
2) make sure that the /etc/sfw/smb.conf file had the appropriate
workgroup setting
3) add a "new network printer" printer using the printmgr.
Select the "uri" protocol
use "smb://server/printer" or something similar for the
"destination" (see man -M/usr/sfw/man smbspool)
Once I completed that, I was able to print.
-Norm
I recommend using the printmgr, but the equivalent lpadmin commands is
roughly
# lpadmin -p epson -v smb://192.168.0.145/epson -m uri -Ipostscript \
-n
/usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/Epson/Epson-Stylus_Color_777-Stc777p.upp.ppd.gz
...
+ accept, enable, lpfilter invocations.
% uname -a
SunOS snappy 5.11 snv_40 i86pc i386 i86pc
% lpstat -p epson -v epson -l
printer epson is idle. enabled since Tue May 30 12:53:53 2006. available.
