@ Andrew: I would love to have a look at your .conkyrc if I may, sounds like
you've been digging through the functions, I mostly use conky for standard
HW/Network monitoring, but it would be really cool to see what I can do with
it audio-wise. Also, having a .conkyrc that is configured to run with the
live-cd would make a nice bonus for the system.

I am also a Fluxbox-fan, and would like to second the opinion that it should
be included. I've also used LXDE a bit lately, seems to be maturing nicely,
even though it's a kid compared to XFCE, it's really small, and seems to do
the job nicely, while also giving a similar experience to XFCE/Gnome and the
likes.

But must admit that the thought of a Live-CD that can boot as a
netjack-slave and make some sort of "Live-Cluster" is really
mouth-watering....:)

I'll help on the testing-side, I reckon you'll post something here as you
come closer to your goal?
