I have used InDesign in the past when it was version 1.0 but not the new
version 2.0. Could the problem be that it RIPs the grayscale images as CMYK
and then sends the info to the deskjet as CMYK which is then converted by
the driver to RGB by the printer before it's printed? That may explain why
the files print differently from the two apps. I suspect, is because it's
being printing as a grayscale from Photoshop but as a CMYK from InDesign.
Just a thought.

Why not try Stephen Marsh's action to save the grayscale as a CMYK and then
see if it makes a difference when you place the file in InDesign?

My twopence worth.
