Hello List .

Can anyone enlighten me about the causes of posterisation on inkjet prints ?
I have a rather low key portrait which I have scanned on my flatbed and
imported into PS7 . After extensive PS work cleaning up the image and
attempting to get shadow detail to prints whilst holding highlight detail I
have attempted to print on my 1290 . Results I am seeing include some
unpleasant posterisation in the shadows ( well what I know as posterisation
......... a band of lighter tone where midtones meet a dark tone ) .
Is it possible to predict this happening by looking at the histogram ? And
what are usual causes for ' gappy ' histograms ? It seems to happen where I
use an adjustment levels or curves layer to control contrast .
I would be infinitely grateful for some help from the wise and learned of
this list .
Rick
PS : printer not yet profiled ............ but I am undecided whether to
profile this 1290 or get a 1160 to be profiled . Thoughts ??
