Dear Michael It depends on how you define a rip-off. My ELM batteries lasted over 20 years until I sold the camera when they were still going strong. Mobile phone batteries on the other hand don't even last the short life of the phone itself. My ELM was one of the early ones and I think the batteries were hand made by NASA;-)
Which brings me to an on topic question. Is there a standard voltage that all mobile digital devices work at? Will one big battery pack run digi cameras, storage drives, laptops etc. I asked the question of a camera dealer and got the vague answer, "Oh yes. everything is standard at 13.5 volts, just like a car battery."
