Francis Seems sensible Microsoft are a very successful company simply because it has no effective competition. Regardless of the profitability of Apples hardware division its not even in the shadow of Microsoft software . Should Apple decide to go the software route for everyone I think it will have to iron out the bugs it seems to supply as standard far more efficiently for Mr and Mrs average to opt for it. I believe Apples small market share is primarily down to their greed, not wishing to let other suppliers licence their technology ( apart from their brief dalliance with Pulsar who sold their kit below apples prices. ). Whatever your views on the O/S the hardware side has seen a convergence that it will be hard to stop. The Apple only hardware like CPU,s are rendered expensive on grounds of small volume production in limited runs so utilising mainstream products allied to having a creative input to their development seems to me a good way to go. I'm happy with what I use simply because I've used no other system. Likewise I'm happy with My Hasselblads although I've never tried out similar The Bronica or Rollies .
