Dear Neil

Some may remember the interview Epson's top guy made in the BJP a few years
back. He flew to London especially because of the worries about the ink
fading. In the interview he let slip that it was the paper longevity Epson
were most worried about. Until then no one had thought that the paper coating
was not long lasting.

Does anyone know what the coating is that Somerset and others are using to
make watercolour papers into inkjet papers? I was told by someone who
experiments with old processes that water based polyurethene varnish can be
used!

I'm confused yet again by your mention of Somerset Velvet Enhanced. Do you
mean...
1/ There's no stock of the paper?
2/ There's no stock of the printers?
3/ That the driver settings are available in the US and not here?

If 3/ is there a site to download the US version?

Also. My printer, which I am setting up today has two Printer Software disks.
They appear to be identical. The only difference I can see is one has (E I P
S) on the bottom and the other has (E F G D). Whish is correct?

Yours

Bob Croxford

The printer manufacturer has- we hope - made every effort to optimise
the combination of ink and paper. When ink goes onto paper it reacts
with the coating, so the coating could be said to be half the equation
in print life. I think it's important to be aware that the stated life
for prints from Epson printers is for EPSON ink and paper TOGETHER.

Epson seem to approve Somerset Velvet Enhanced for the 7600 and 9600,
although I was told they don't have any stock here in the UK yet,
neither do the UK drivers have a setting for that paper, so who kinows
if it's coming. >>
