Dick:

We shoot product and people in the studio, and people and room sets on location. Subject matter ranges from sportswear and apparel to typical industrial location shooting. All images are ultimately intended for reproduction in marketing materials, with additional usage in packaging and POP's, even the occasional trade show exhibit.

We've been using the eyelike MF (6mp) for over 2 years now. In the studio, we mount to a compact view camera (Cambo Ultima) via a sliding back. Since we use multiple pop capture mostly in the studio, we've been using the Kapture Group electronic cable release for multiple pops. Lenses are Rodenstock apo-digitals 50mm and 90mm in self cocking shutters. The combination works very well, and has been pretty bulletproof to date.
On location we generally mount to a Hasselblad. I've been looking into adding either a Digiflex II body or the True-Wide from the Kapture Group for wide angle work.

eyelike's software has been good, offering all the controls we've needed, and they regularly upgrade the software adding features requested by their customers.

We're currently looking into upgrading to either the Kodak 12mp or the Philips 11mp chips. Both are offered by Jenoptic for the eyelike system. After over two years using the above setup, we've found very few situations where the final image would benefit from the increased resolution offered with the new chips, and have really agonized over the decision to upgrade. The vast majority of images used for print materials are reproduced at smaller sizes - 5x7 or less. Exhibition prints up to 24 x 36 have been beautifully handled with the current equipment (output from Lambda or inkjet printers). For still images, we can shoot a 16 pop capture and capture 144mb files.

We currently spend quite a bit of time in archiving and managing images and files - I'm a little leery of just how much time - and how many CDs it would take to archive off files that are double what we're using now.

Anyone out there that has upgraded - or switched to the higher res chips - I'd be interested to hear of both the benefits and drawbacks to the newer high res chips.

Are there any Commercial photographers on the forum, who:
- do serious commercial/architectural work
- for serious customers,
- with digital backs producing at least 20 Mega pixels,
- on view cameras or with mechanical movements?

I am thinking of buying an Eyelike 6/22 Mpixel system, but searching the
archive for Eyelike only produced one hit.

What do you (the above) use, are you happy with it, and what would you
replace it with?
