None of the modern digital process passes the Martian test. i.e. if a Martian came to earth and saw what we have to do to get a good print, it would think we must be crazy. Have we been sold a dud with the digital revolution? Beautiful prints displayed by the camera / printer / paper manufacturers are not achievable with basic (unprofiled / untested) setups. Re the 1290: The image position on paper is about 3 mm higher than the Photoshop document. Why should I have to enter -0.25cm Top adjustment in the Position dialogue box every time I print. Presets don't stay preset. Programs (or OS) make their own decisions about your workflow, contrary to commands or logic. So many posts seek solutions to problems that should not be there in the first place.
