<< Hi Bob,

Are you able to elaborate any more on this?  As you know, the biggest
drawback to buying outside UK seems to be the uncertainty of the warranty
situation.  I'm told quite categorically by the supplier in Hong Kong that
Canon warranty is HK only and not covered in UK.  But you seem to have been
told different.  Do you (or anyone else?) have a name and email and phone
of someone in Canon that I can talk to about this?

Much appreciated.

Dear David

The way I asked the question was not specific to Hong Kong but it was the wonderful free service I got from Olympus in HK that has prompted my question of Kodak and other manufacturers.

The way I ask the question is based on the premise that photographers travel for work and holidays. What happens to a camera if you need repair under warranty away from home base? Kodak UK have an answer which differs from Kodak in the USA. They say the warranty is Europe only while Kodak in the USA say it is worldwide.

I couldn't get near the Canon stand but Leica, Mamiya, Minolta and Olympus honour world wide guarantees with varying degrees of efficiency in the UK.

This is an issue because there is a dealer in California who inspect and test every chip befor selling a camera. 15% of cameras are rejected by them. For the $50 extra I would rather buy one of theirs than risk a 15% chance of an inferior chip.

I know someone who is buying a Canon at the moment from there and will ask about UK warrantee. He is not on this list but Deborah knows more about the transaction and is.
