David,
We have a Maxell Factory locally who make CDs.
The conditions they are made in is incredibly well controlled from temp and humidity
to having a constant positive air pressure in the working area along with superfine
air filtration and entry access Airlocks which give you a good blast of air to
remove debris after putting on a onepiece protective suit.
Viewing the surface of the CDs with an Electron Microscope shows up all the defects
that arise from poor material structure to airborne contamination.and I remain amazed
at the lack of defects and the high quality that is maintained.
