Aloha,

I am about to upgrade my Olympus D459Zoom (1.3 MB). I have used it
primarily to copy archival photos to illustrate books. The old Olympus
worked fine for grabbing low-res images for placement, but the final
images were photographed traditionally. I would now like to eliminate
that second step and use a higher-res digital camera for placement and
final. Most of the images are about 8 x 10 so extreme close-ups are not
a requirement.

I have been looking at the Nikon Coolpix 5000, but this morning my
publisher suggested looking at the Hewlett-Packard 850. The dollar
difference--about $100--seems less important than the ability to shoot
RAW images (the HP is limited to JPEG). I rarely use batteries as I have
access to AC power.

Are there other suggestions for cameras in this price range that would
work for my purposes?

Thanks,

Mac Simpson
