http://www.ledet.com/margulis/ACT_postings/ProfilingandProofing/ACT-Dangers-
of-Embedding.htm

An embedded profile can be a good thing in many cases, but when it comes to
output ready CMYK files in traditional PostScript CMYK separated output
workflows, it is not so clear cut - it really depends on the parties
concerned and expectations between supplier of the data and the folk
handling the data for output.

A common case for not having a profile is for calibration and profiling test
targets for RGB or CMYK devices - it does not matter what flavour the
mystery meat values are, the importance of those values comes into play when
coupled with the device that is being tested/profiled etc.

It would be tedious for me to go into this in depth on this list - I have
done it enough on the ACT list (where you can read Dans, Andrews and many
others opinions) . There are pros/cons to all decisions that we make -
tagging output ready CMYK files is no different.

Some folk want their files values changed, others do not - an embedded tag
often leads to a different conclusion than no tag, for right or wrong.
