Say you measure an absolute Lab value which gives you a handle on lightness
/ darkness and subsequently dmax is a measure of lightness / darkness, one
can only assume that there must be a correlation between any Lab values and
dmax.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but you might better articulate your

Yes, the scale is logarithmic. As to the rest of this sentence - again, I
find myself at a loss understanding your meaning.

Dmax is a scale measure of light / dark ness. Therefore it must be an
absolute value. What does lighting - strong or otherwise have to do with it?
