Epson's feeble drivers and support, or lack of support, for OSX don't exactly foster customer loyalty in my eyes. Yet, their printers make excellent prints once you get them tweaked to your system and preferences.Absolutely.
So - I was wondering if anyone in this group uses, or has seen output from, one of the relatively new Canon i9100 printers that make 13 x 19? If so, can anyone compare it to output from the Epson 2200?(snip)
How does the Epson 2200 do with text? And finally, the Canon is about $200 cheaper than the Epson, but I'm more interested in getting the printer that will best suit our needs and produce the best image quality.I recently asked the list about a suitable replacement for my 2100 and had several off-list replies recommending the Canon S9000 and newer i9100, on quality and economy. I'm still waiting to get my 2100 back from repairs (2nd time), but I'm beginning to think I might just get a Canon whatever state the 2100 comes back in.
As far as text goes with the 2100, afraid I can't offer up much encouragement, I think it's normal for a machine so focused on producing photo quality to be somewhat lacking when it comes to text. I decided to use a slightly heavier font on cards produced on the 2100, just to ensure it was fully legible at 10pt. Also, when I have to print letters on plain paper the photo ink produces a very washed out black, again not as crisp as I would like, (Matte ink seems marginally better).
To be fair, I would not expect any photo printer to do much better: if you need to produce a significant amount of text you may be better off buying another printer for that purpose, something more economical to run.
