Hi All Sorry for the length of this message, but its really hurting my brain ....
For over 18 months I've used NERO to burn CD's for clients - WIN 2K/ISO 9660/Level 1/Mode 1. All have been read Ok - until this week. Monday, I wrote TIFFs to CD for agency - using file names "ABCD_010603_Img001.Tiff" etc. Client can see all the files on Mac / OS9.2, but the file names have changed to "ABCD_0603.Tiff" etc. Not only have they been abreviated, but the final Img Number is missing entirely. Wednesday, I wrote EPS's, with Paths, for another client - using file name "ABCD_010603_Img001.eps" etc. This client phoned to say that the file names did not match the supplied reference prints. They say that they are using Mac / OS9.2. As it happens my "entirely" reliable WIN2K box had a complete fit last night - died a horrible death and has had to be rebuilt from scratch. All software was reloaded on to clean drives. This morning I burnt a new CD, with the same EPS files. Checked this on another PC, which showed the full file name and drove the disc to the client. Horror, the file names are being truncated again. In addition the Mac Os is not showing the correct Icon for the files - EPS's. Each appears on the Mac screen with a "document" style paper icon, and will not open when clicked on. Nor will the file type produce a dialog box suggesting that the user assigns a program to use. The files will open in to PS, if its opened first and the files imported. In this case I was able to see the problem for myself and althought the files have been renamed they do contain all the paths etc of the original EPS's. My first thought was that I'd changed the configuration of the CD burner, but as we reloaded all software last night the software is in a "default" setting - which is where I thought I always left it. Both clients are long standing and we have not experieinced this issue before. The same burner/software has created discs for them over the last 18 months, without any problem. Next thought was Mac OSX - never used it but seen too many posts here about bugs etc - however both clients are running OS9.2, over networked systems. Needless to say I've had the "....should have bought a Mac...." jokes all morning, but didn't finish reloading the software until 01.00am so was not amused. Anybody out there can HELP !!
