Mike, you may like to consider Piezography BW - though this product set is going through a transition at the moment that makes it difficult to push - as whilst we know what is coming, the 'when' is proving to be something of a problem. Rough summary of the new system - the OEM printer driver is used in conjunction with an ICC 'colour' profile, and monochrome pigment based inks. The two halves of the profile will enable you to view on-screen a representation of your image as it will print (simulating paper white if you wish, simulating the depth of black, simulating the hue of your chosen inkset etc etc)... But the other half of the profile fools the printer into correctly printing the right mono inks. Or there is ImagePrint with e.g. PiezoTone inks... Or with mild toning capability and the newest Epson printers like the 76/9600. ImagePrint appears to use the Black, Light Black and a 'toning' ink for their mono prints which appears to reduce metamerism. We have certainly had good feedback from users who purchased for just this purpose. In comparison, I think that the Epson driver uses all colours in mono printing. Or there is Lyson Small Gamut or Quad inks. They each have their strengths and weaknesses as you would expect. The biggest weakness IMHO is metamerism but if you want gloss papers as an option then the Small Gamut may be a choice for you. We have no experience of these on A2 at this time, but I'm sure they're available in large-format carts. ...and doubtless many others. We hope to be investigating another RIP solution soon. You will be able to find out much more about these options on our website: http://www.mwords.co.uk/pages/FAQ/articleMonoPrinting.htm And on many other product oriented FAQs. Hope this is of interest to you, Nij =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
