You don't say which graphics card and monitor you are using. There may be updated drivers available, but first play around with the bit depth and resolution settings on the monitor. If you're only using the monitor for tool palettes, then you can set it to display thousands instead of millions of colours, and set it to a lowish resolution. This will speed things up.
