There is an .EXE firmware update for the DVR-105 but, as an .exe, it's incompatible with Macs.

If you have a Pioneer DVD writer do not make the same mistake as me. I used 4x DVD media in my Pioneer DVR-103 writer (badged as a LaCie Firewire DVD writer) and it trashed the machine.
Pioneer's web-site is very clear about the problems with 4x media, and they give clear instructions about how to update the firmware to avoid potential problems, but in my case by the time I read all this info on their site it was too late, I had already tried to use 4x discs and they say that my DVD writer is uneconomic to repair.
These Pioneer drives also feature in Apple Macs, Compaq and Sony computers and in various other boxes (eg LaCie) as OEM drives. The DVR-104 is also affected.
