I phoned up The Printer Man - Ian Richards on 01323 511122 who has the amazing ability to diagnose over the phone. I went to his place in Eastbourne where he gave it a full service while I waited. Did a perfect job.
Unfortunately I had had a profile done by Profile-lab only the week before,ie with a clogged up head so this was rendered useless. In a discussion with Profile-lab they immediately offered to reprofile for FREE.
I appreciate service like this hence this posting.
While I'm gushing...this list is a superb resource and practically everything I know about colour management has come from the various gurus that occupy it such as Neil Barstow and Thomas Holm.
