I have saved all my crucial stuff to an external firewire HDD.
I am assuming that I will be able to plug this into the new machine and drag all the data off it without any trouble.
Depends what you mean by "stuff". There should be no problem with reading files but there may be some applications, desk accessories etc that won't run under Classic.
