A web based outfit called www.warehouseexpress.com are advertising the Canon 1ds at �5,499 inc VAT which is �4,680 exc. VAT. The ads are also in print in two photo mags.
The catch is that Canon have run out and no one it seems has them at the moment except at �1,500+ more. www.warehouseexpress.com have confirmed the price by phone with a slightly ambiguous hint that the price could even come down when stocks return but will at least be held.
Kodak are barnstorming around the country at the moment putting a lot of effort into selling the 14n. Will this cause Canon to compete a bit more on price? I am in no hurry for a month or so.

Piece of trivia..... Today $8,000 equals �5,000 exactly. $7,999 is the B&H price in NY.
