Hi there ProDigers,

Intro (Reqd) Barry Woods, Assisting Photographer, Photographer

Hi again, I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now, hoping this point
would come up (and I apologise if this has been covered before on the list)
but..

Is there an industry standard white point for monitors?

I'm running a G4, LaCie 19" Blue IV monitor & Epson 1290s and am going
through the whole process of calibration.. Martin's PS7 book is a great
help, but he mentions choosing 6505k as a white point, saying that 5000k
would 'look rather dull and have a slightly yellow cast'. Fair point, but to
my eyes 6505k also looks dull and yellow.. (I suppose by comparison to the
heavy blue and brightness of the monitor's original profile)

I'm at the beginning of the whole process and slowly getting my head around
it(!), so any help/thoughts/tips/websites of interest/etc. would be much
appreciated, on or off list.

thanks,

Barry
