Hi Bob,

I am slightly evangelical about Capture One for a couple of reasons;
most significantly that it saves me so much time. I shoot with a 1Ds and
found it nigh on unusable with the Canon software / Breezebrowser etc.
Things have changed slightly with Adobe's Raw convertor, but the whole
system still works on a 'One File at a time' principal. I used to reckon
on a day shoot taking me a day to edit / process / output. This is now
down to around 1-1.5 hours.

Capture one allows you to stack up a folder of RAW files, edit them in a
contact sheet view and using two keys (backspace / delete on the PC) you
can move files to a keep or the trash folder. All of this is undooable.
There is a brilliant 'export previews functon that generates a
professional looking web page (or folder of low res files if you prefer)
in a few seconds. This is currently PC only, but will be on the Mac very
shortly.

To preview a file full screen is a single key press and there is a great
mini magnifier that allows you to check RGB values / image detail.

Output quality is very high from C1. I have tear sheets here from
magazines where a cropped file has been printed as a DPS with no clue
that the file is not out of my RZ. I did many comparisons with ARC when
it first came out and found it lacking, particularly with control of
noise and moire. The only thing that ARC really does better is to upsize
images.

If you are not sure, why not download a demo from PhaseOne.com and try
it for thirty days?

PS. The LE version is only for the amateur market and only supports an
handful of cameras

Capture One costs $599 for a MAC and there isn't an LE Mac version.

Are there so many advantages to Capture One over Adobe's Camera Raw
that is is worth the extra?

This is for a Canon 1ds.

Many thanks
