What exactly do you think it is it's missing? > Also if they could put in a fade > command in the same dialog box that would help enormously as I always > fade unsharp mask using luminosity. The very easy way around this is to apply USM on a layer and set the blending mode of this layer to luminosity. Then you can further adjust the USM using the Blend If sliders in the Advanced Layer options, as well as use a layer mask to selectively remove/add USM in specific places - and the opacity... Also much of this stuff can easily be built into and action like this so it's very simple to use... Start recording: 1) Make a new empty layer 2) Stamp Visible (Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+E) - or just hold down the entire left side of the keyboard <G>. 3) Open the Advanced Blending options and set the Bland If and Blending mode as you prefer. Typically that would be to make sure USM isn't applied to any value over 247 or below 10 - or whatever you prefer. YOU probably want to split the triangles so you get a bit of threshold. 4) Open USM and set it to a couple of standard values that are usable as a starting point, I use Amount 100, Radius 1.0 and Threshold 0. Stop recording. Assign a hotkey so you get all the above with the press of a button. You'll find that you can achieve almost anything you want with this procedure, except selective sharpening. But if you make a layer mask on the USM layer, you have that as well...
