Yup, that it is true but in the real world with modern filing systems and big disk caches, it rarely makes -much- difference. Other things are usually happening to slow things up if you've noticed it as a problem. > MacJanitor runs the same maintenance scripts that the OS does if you leave > your Mac on 24/7. It can't actually defrag your HDD, True, but the question was about a laptop - I don't leave mine on overnight, just to run cleanup scripts... > which is what Janus > wants to do, or do repairs. You need DiskWarrior for OS X to do a defrag or > to rebuild your directories. There is another HD utility for OS X called > Drive X, you can read about its features on the Apple site. All very true (and I'd recommend drive 10 - I've used it to save several clients disks) but I stand by my original point that there are lots of things you can do (for free) without even needing to think about defragging disks. I'm sure my own Powerbook ran faster after I painted red stripes down the side, although not as fast as if I'd paid for real Apple stripes :-)) bye for now Keith Cooper =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
