Bob,

I don't think I would claim it was necessarily easier to get work direct
from end clients, but it does have distinct advantages and is much more
rewarding.

Namely:

1) You have much more choice as to who you work for.

2) You do not have a middle man to muddy the waters in getting the brief.

3) The brief tends to be much more exciting than anything an art director
can come up with.

For example: 'We have an operation in China or Argentina. Just come back
with some spectacular images showing our relationship with the people, the
environment and our commitment to that part of the world.'  In other words,
I have total control over what I photograph and how it is set up and its
cost, as well as deciding to shoot digital or on film, or a mixture of both.

4) The best of course is - you get paid quicker! Usually 30 days.
