Re: Ebay insurance. This apparently *only* applies in the USA. I heard about
a woman in the UK who was cheated out of ?10,000 (she sent the goods but was
never paid) but was not covered by Ebay's insurance. I don't know if the
escrow is offered outside the US either.

This case came up on the BBC Money Box program, a reliable source of
consumer financial advice.

I may be wrong but I think "Ebay did not provide a spokesman" type of
affairs, where they read out a statement to the effect that Ebay is looking
at insurance schemes outside the USA.

I have used Ebay in the UK, but prefer hands on contact with the goods
before releasing the cash, only realistic in the home counties I guess but
it has worked well both buying and selling.

Cheers

I was under the impression that as long as you stuck to the eBay guidelines,
you were insured against fraud. If the item is too good to be true, eBay
being the intermediary, should make good by reimbursing you when the auction
they oversaw turns sour.

One VERY obvious scam to be weary of is the seller sending an email to all
the bidders to say the item was sold but the buyer dropped out so, as you
made a bid, you are being given the chance to purchase the item! Of course,
since you weren't the successful bidder and you'd be entering into a private
sale, I can't see how eBay would back your claim when the 2.5k 1Ds doesn't
turn up on your doorstep.

There's something to be said for another old saying "A fool and his money
are soon parted."

My Tupence worth...any raise?....
