[PRODIG] epson 1270-cyan lines

Any ideas what would cause an brief intermittent outbreak of very fine 
cyan lines parallel to the direction of travel of the head?
These are not consistent, nor do they occur on every print- but they 
are @%�$^ annoying!

Any advice very welcome.
