This image is still copyrighted by PhotoDisc even if it is distributed freely by them, so saying "I've got..." may make people think the wrong things wont it? > about half way down the article at > <http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/printfix1.html> -- of course don't read > the article, which is intended for those with a heretical DIY approach to CM > and profiling :-)) :-)) > > ...and no I don't sell the kit, before anyone thinks it's just a plug! :-) Keith, I'll stick my head out and say that the two are not comparable. If you look closely at any of the objective targets on the PhotoDisc target namely the greyscale you'll know what I mean. One of the key issues with a test image is to evaluate whether your monitor looks correct or not, or your print looks correct or not. Amusingly enough no matter which way you profile your monitor (if you profile it correctly) the Kodak grey wedge always has plugged shadows (same goes for the other targets on the image) essentially this target target will mislead you in regard to shadow areas on both screen and print as the shadows is clipped in the capture. The big question with test images is "How do you know what you see on screen or print is correct?" It's not about the image looking pretty, it's about the image appearing as an accurate representation of the image data... The are two ways to ensure this: Either you measure objective values either on monitor or print, or you compare with a known reference... The Photodisc image doesn't have a known reference, and unless you have a degree in rocket science (ok colour science then), a small arsenal of spectrophotometers and applications, and have a very firm understanding of colour appearance and can figure out how to make it all work together, measuring the screen is out of the picture too.
