  Not necessarily true.  Some will claim is doesn't matter (... leastwise,
you'll not perceive differences), and some would claim you should set your
gamma equal to your preferred working space.  I personally try to set the
calibrated gamma (either 1.8 or 2.2) as close as possible to the monitor's
native (uncalibrated/uncompensated) gamma.  For example, for your own
information you should determine your monitor's "factory" characteristics
while displaying an image, similar to below, while it's still uncalibrated.
What you have been told wouldn't hold water if it were closer to 2.2 than
1.8 (... leastwise, they'd have a difficult time justifying it).
