Using OSX and a Superdrive I wanted to archive 694Mb of RAW files onto a 700Mb CD: Mac OSX saw the blank CD as having 660Mb of free space, and couldn't put the folder onto it. I transferred the folder onto my old PowerBook rebooted in OS9; the finder still saw the folder contents as 694Mb. I launched Toast 4.1.3, this saw the same blank CD as having 702Mb free, and when I dragged the folder onto it, it came up as 696Mb. Burned it with room to spare.
Does anyone know if
a) there is a simple fix to this without using other CD writing software?
b) Panther has fixed this issue?
c) Toast for OSX will also manage to fill 700Mb CDs?
At the moment it seems that OSX insists users to waste 40Mb of storage space on each 700Mb CD.
Thanks, William Davies.
